Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with preventative equipment maintenance; OR 2) assisting with field surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; OR 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; AND 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines; AND 3) Working in a team environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Specialized Experience for GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Analyzing and interpreting field data results; AND 3) Using Windows-based data acquisition and editing systems, such as Hypack Software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using hydrographic surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of field surveying instruments; 3) Coordinating hydrographic survey operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Information Gathering Mission Execution Surveying Technology Application Vessel Operations Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Time-In-Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) Position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade: GS-04 for the GS-05; GS-05 for the GS-06, GS-06 for the GS-07, GS-07 for the GS-08, and GS-08 for the GS-09 (or equivalent). With regards to time-in-grade validation, if you held a position other than a GS pay plan, be sure your resume includes the pay plan and the salary you earned during the assignment. Without this information, your time-in-grade validation may not be able to be verified and will result in your not meeting the time-grade requirement for this vacancy.
