GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting in setting up and/or operating lab equipment designed to simulate mechanical and/or engineering concepts; 2) performing technical support work that demonstrates experience working with mechanical or electrical equipment; and, 3) operating metalworking tools, engine lathes, milling machine, or other closely related equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting in setting up and operating lab equipment designed to simulate mechanical and/or engineering concepts; 2) installing, maintaining, fabricating, modifying, and/or repairing mechanical or electrical equipment; and, 3) conducting performance tests to ensure equipment used in laboratory exercises or for research projects is operational; 4) operating metalworking tools, engine lathes, milling machine, or other closely related equipment; and, 5) programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment using industry standard software programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) setting up and operating lab equipment designed to simulate mechanical and engineering concepts; 2) installing, maintaining, fabricating, modifying, and/or repairing a variety of equipment containing mechanical or electrical subassemblies, components, or devices; 3) conducting performance tests to ensure equipment used in laboratory exercises or for research projects is operational; 4) determining the extent and/or cause of equipment malfunctions; 5) operating metalworking tools, engine lathes, milling machine, or other closely related equipment; 6) programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment using industry standard software programs; and, 7) setting up and operating equipment used for the welding and joining of metals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
