TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-12 GRADE LEVEL, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications. Specific Specialized Experience for this Technical Writer (Medical Science) GS-12 position includes developing written public health materials for audiences with varied understanding and awareness; evaluating scientific information for publication; writing about academic research, US health care and health disparities; assisting with website development and management; producing written materials that conform to the intent and specifications of the assignment (for example, concerning content, focus, and length). NOTE: Substitution of Education for the specialized experience is not creditable for this position. Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform portions of the work. However, travel will be required with minor lifting and moving of research-related items as well as standing, bending, or stretching to inspect various research areas and equipment. Work also often requires intense concentration.
