Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks. I can operate a variety of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, tractors, graders and/or compaction road rollers. I can perform a variety of grounds maintenance tasks as well as safely load and relocate materials, establish ditches on roadways, and clear brush and performing basic maintenance on such equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. – Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Heavy physical effort is required by the operator in operating the equipment controls or vehicle repair. Strain, noise, vibrations, and dust irritation may result from the operation of equipment operating over rough surfaces. Operation of larger equipment is strenuous because of more frequent adjustment while operating under conditions of steep and unstable grounds and close proximity to structures and above and underground utilities. Works at benches or while material is on supports, or on equipment while at work site. This requires considerable standing, stooping, sitting, bending, and reaching. The work normally requires lifting of material, tires, tools, and equipment. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed outdoors exposed to extremes of hot and cold weather and subject to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, continuous vibration and jolting with danger from moving machinery, swing loads, breaking cables, overturning etc. Must be constantly alert to dangers of heavy equipment to himself and others working nearby which might include public. Is exposed to traffic hazards while hauling or driving heavy equipment on highways or rough, roads. May work in cramped quarters and in, over, or near water. May occasionally make repairs in areas where fumes are present. There may be exposure to insect, snake, and spider bites. The incumbent is exposed to injury from power tools and danger from flying splinters, metals, airborne particles, cuts, or scrapes from maintenance or operation of equipment.
