Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-9 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing three of the following duties: Attended pre-bid and bid opening conferences to discuss principal construction features and requirements, in terms of methods and equipment; Conducted detailed site surveys, such as plotting of profiles and cross sections, setting stakes to mark pertinent features, and/or investigating foundation and barrow pits; Informed contractor of requirements concerning construction scheduling, progress reporting, safety measures, wage and hour law observance, labor relations, or payroll records; and/or Participated in preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for modifications to small engineering systems and/or timber sale road packages. For the GS-10 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing three of the following duties: Conducted a wide range of non-standard surveys and data collection activities to provide data for civil engineering project designs; Performed field surveys and collecting field data required for engineering plans for design and construction on forest administrative sites; Recommended solutions to routine construction project problems that can be resolved by calculations typical to civil engineering projects; and/or Prepared engineering data reports and recommending priorities used in the formulation of cost estimates and bills of materials. For the GS-11 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing three of the following duties: Coordinated with other resource area personnel to assess road maintenance requirements and needs; Provided technical engineering expertise to manage road and bridge system including transportation operations and deferred maintenance improvements; Prepared conventional designs and specifications for various engineering projects or systems; and/or Administered construction and maintenance contracts to insure compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
