Computer Engineer, AST, Software Systems

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Providing technical expertise and/or technical leadership in the development and implementation of software systems for use in ground data systems; Developing and implementing project planning and management of software systems and activities; Participating in the development of ground data software systems to meet specific mission requirements. To qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading a team in software development, software engineering, programming languages, operating systems or engineering practices and principles as they apply to the development and operation of aerospace, aeronautical, space science and/or earth science vehicles, spacecraft and/or instruments; Leading the development, testing, deployment, and sustaining engineering of ground data software systems; Preparing and presenting organizational and project technical reviews and status briefings; Performing technical reviews supporting the development of software data systems applications for in flight and/or ground systems operations.
